Grab OTP Not Received? How to Fix It (2026)

Published: 5 min read Written by:  Published by: SMSVAR

If your Grab OTP is not received, start with the basics: the country code and number, your phone's message filters, and whether you've requested too many codes in a short time. Grab, the ride, food and payments super-app used across Southeast Asia, signs you in with your phone number and a one-time password, so the account depends entirely on that code reaching you. Below are the fixes in order, plus what to do when you're travelling or have changed your number.

How Grab sign-in works

When you sign up or log in on a new device, Grab sends a one-time password (OTP) to the phone number on your account. Enter it within the time shown and you're in. Because GrabPay and saved payment methods sit behind the same login, the phone number is effectively the key to your money in the app as well as your rides.

If the verification screen offers another delivery channel, such as a different messaging option or a call, it's worth trying when SMS is slow. The options vary by market and app version.

Grab OTP not received: fixes in order

  1. Check the number and country. Select the right country and enter the number without its leading 0.
  2. Wait before requesting again. Give it a couple of minutes; repeated requests can trigger a temporary limit on new codes.
  3. Use only the newest code. Each request replaces the previous OTP, so older messages no longer work.
  4. Check message filters. Look in spam or unknown-senders folders and your blocked list; turn off any SMS blocker app.
  5. Check signal and airplane mode. SMS needs mobile coverage; Wi-Fi alone won't deliver it.
  6. Try another channel if offered. Some screens let you choose a different delivery method.
  7. Update the app and restart the phone. It clears many one-off failures.
  8. Contact Grab support. Use the help section in the app and describe exactly where the code fails.

Travelling in Southeast Asia

Many visitors install Grab on arrival, buy a data-only eSIM, and then can't receive the OTP because their home SIM is switched off. On a dual-SIM phone, keep your home line enabled for SMS while using the eSIM for data; receiving texts while roaming is usually inexpensive even when roaming data isn't. Our guide on receiving codes abroad walks through the settings.

If your home number simply can't receive Grab's OTP, a one-time number can get you through sign-up. On smsvar.com you choose Grab and a country, check the price on our prices page, and the code appears on your order screen; if nothing arrives within 20 minutes, the fee is refunded to your balance automatically.

Keep payments on a number you control

A one-time number is fine for receiving a sign-up code, but think twice before linking GrabPay or a card to an account that depends on it. If the number is reassigned later, logging back in becomes difficult. For an account you'll use for payments, switch to your own number as soon as you can. Read when a temporary number makes sense for the trade-offs, and avoid VoIP numbers from calling apps, which sign-up forms often reject, as explained in non-VoIP vs VoIP numbers.

Use Grab fairly, too: opening extra accounts to collect new-user promotions breaks Grab's terms and leads to blocked accounts.

Never share your Grab OTP

A common scam involves someone posing as a driver, a delivery rider or Grab support and asking you to read out the code you just received. With it, they can take over your account and spend your GrabPay balance. Grab staff don't need your OTP. If you've shared it, change your account settings right away and contact Grab support through the app.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my Grab OTP not coming?

Usually because of a wrong number or country, a message filter, no signal, or a temporary limit after several requests. Check the number, wait a few minutes, and request a single code. If other apps' codes arrive fine, contact Grab support from the app.

How do I log in to Grab if I lost my old number?

Grab will keep sending the OTP to the number on your account. If you no longer have it, contact Grab support through the help section and ask to verify your identity so they can update the number.

Can I use Grab with a foreign phone number?

Yes, Grab accepts numbers from many countries. Make sure the number can receive SMS while you travel, and keep your home SIM active for texts if you use a data-only eSIM.

Can I use a virtual number for Grab?

A one-time mobile number can receive the sign-up OTP, as long as it isn't a VoIP number. For an account linked to payments, update to your own number afterwards so you can always log back in.
