What is WhatsApp SMS verification?

Every fresh WhatsApp installation sends a six-digit confirmation code to the phone number you enter. If you would rather not hand over your own line, or you are setting up a second account, you need a temporary number to receive that code. That is exactly what a whatsapp virtual number does: it reserves a number for you for a short window, shares it with nobody else, and displays the incoming message on your screen.

The number is single-use. Once the code arrives, the number returns to the pool and cannot be used for a second registration. This is inherent to how the service works and applies to every provider.

How to get a WhatsApp verification number

  1. Create your account and add credit.
  2. In the panel, pick WhatsApp as the service, then choose the country you want the number from.
  3. The number is reserved instantly and shown on screen. Enter it in WhatsApp with the country code and no leading zero.
  4. The six-digit code appears on the same screen. Type it into the app.

The whole flow usually takes a minute or two. If no code arrives there is no need to wait it out: cancel and try a different country.

Which country should you pick?

WhatsApp does not restrict which country a number belongs to; the account opens and works. In practice the choice affects two things: price and current availability. Prices can differ sharply between countries for the same platform, because the underlying carrier cost sets the price and that cost moves during the day.

The country list on this page is sorted from the lowest price upward. If one country has no numbers left, working down the list is the quickest route.

The two-step PIN lock, and why registration can stall

A WhatsApp account can be protected with a six-digit PIN. If somebody registered WhatsApp on that number before you and left the PIN switched on, the whatsapp verification code still reaches the number, but registration does not complete: the app asks for a PIN you do not have. When the PIN is unknown WhatsApp holds the number for seven days before it will let a new account through.

This is the one genuine obstacle you can hit with a temporary number, and it has nothing to do with the quality of the number. It is about the history of that particular line. If you run into it, cancel rather than wait and take a different number. Because a code did arrive, the transaction may already have been charged; in that case let support know and we will look at it.

Why the voice call option does not help

When the SMS is slow, WhatsApp offers a Call me button and reads the code out loud. Virtual numbers are normally configured to receive SMS only and do not answer voice calls, so that route leads nowhere.

The practical conclusion is simple: if the SMS is not arriving, do not sit waiting for the voice option. Cancel the number and take a fresh one from a different country. Waiting for a call you cannot answer only runs the clock down on the transaction.

What happens to the account once the number is gone

The single-use number returns to the pool after the code has been read. The account you opened keeps working for as long as the session on your phone stays open. There are three moments, though, when WhatsApp needs the number again, and at those moments it will no longer be yours:

  • When you delete and reinstall the app,
  • When you change phones and move the account to a new device,
  • When WhatsApp decides to run a security re-verification.

An account opened this way is therefore best treated as temporary. If you need an account that survives a phone change, a rented number is the better fit, because it stays assigned to you and can receive a second code later.

Linked devices: using the account without the phone

WhatsApp lets you link the same account to four additional devices. Linking is done by scanning a QR code and does not involve SMS at all. So once the account is open you never need the number again to use it from a computer or a tablet.

If the session on the main device ends, the linked devices drop with it. Since the verification number is no longer in your hands, protecting that main session is what keeps the account alive.

Add an email address for recovery

WhatsApp settings allow an email address to be attached to the account. That address gives you a second route in when you cannot reach the SMS code. On an account opened with a temporary number, do this the moment the account is open: once the number is back in the pool, the email is the only recovery path you have left.

The path is Settings, then Account, then Email address. After you confirm the address, WhatsApp can send a code there when it needs to.

Is WhatsApp Business any different?

The verification flow is identical: same number, same six-digit code. The differences come afterwards, with catalogue, away messages and labelling tools in the Business edition.

A number can only be registered on one WhatsApp edition at a time. If you move from the standard app to the Business app, the app may try to verify the number again, so make that switch during the first session, while the code is still reachable.

Common error messages

  • "Too many attempts" — this appears when codes are requested repeatedly for the same number in a short window. The cooldown belongs to that number, so continuing with a different one is faster.
  • "This phone number is banned" — the number was blocked for a rule violation in the past. Cancel and take a new one.
  • No code on screen — check that you entered the number with the country code and without a leading zero.
  • The registration screen loops back — this is usually the two-step PIN lock described above.

A practical order for picking numbers

The table on this page starts at the lowest price, but the cheapest country is not always the fastest result. What works in practice is this: try a country near the top of the list, and if nothing arrives within about two minutes, cancel and move to the next one. A cancelled number is refunded to your balance, so several attempts cost you nothing.

Stock moves during the day. A country that looks empty in the morning can be supplying numbers by the afternoon, because the table is read fresh on every page load.

What happens if the code never arrives?

If no code reaches the number, the transaction counts as incomplete and the amount is returned to your balance. You are not charged for an unused number. This is not something you have to claim afterwards; it happens automatically when the window closes.

Requesting a resend is almost always slower than taking a fresh number: WhatsApp will not send a second code to the same number within a short interval.

Legal and sensible use

Virtual numbers are for opening a second account, registering without exposing your personal number, or completing a short-lived verification. Opening an account in someone else name, fraud, or use for spam breaches our terms of service and is grounds for closing an account.

Messages sent to the number are visible only in your own session, and the number returns to the pool once the transaction ends.

Where the figures on this page come from

The country count and the starting price are not typed by hand: they are read from our own inventory every time the page loads, so what you see is the live position. The real capacity of a whatsapp sms verification service is measured less by how many platforms it lists and more by how many countries it can supply a number from for each platform. A service with a single country per platform is unusable the moment that country runs dry.

WhatsApp is our busiest platform, so this pool turns over faster than any other during the day. You can compare current figures for every platform on the price list, and read how the service works in general on our virtual number page.
