How to get a United Kingdom virtual number

  1. Choose the platform

Pick the service you need from the United Kingdom list below and see its price.

  2. Take a United Kingdom number

The number is assigned to you alone and is never reused for the same service.

  3. Read the code

The incoming verification code appears in your panel. If no code arrives, the charge returns to your balance automatically.

Why is UK coverage so wide?

The platform count above is no accident: UK lines are plentiful in supply, so stock exists for almost every service. In practice that means if the platform you need is not in the table, the odds of finding it on a British line are still better than on most other countries.

Average price stays low for the same reason. Email services (mail.com, GMX, AOL) and messaging apps (Discord, Snapchat) in particular sit on the cheapest rungs for UK lines.

Where do our own users spend UK lines?

In real usage data WhatsApp comes first, then Telegram and Facebook. So the UK line is mostly chosen for global apps where the country code makes no difference at all — picked simply because it is cheap and reliably in stock.

What a UK number will not do

UK banking apps, HMRC and NHS services require the number to match a registered subscription; single-use lines do not pass that check. Some platforms also recognise and reject virtual number ranges — that is true of every provider in this market, not just us. When no code arrives, the charge is refunded.

What happens after you take the number?

The number is assigned to you alone. The incoming verification code appears in your panel; you do not need to forward SMS to your phone or install an app. Once the code arrives the number closes for that service and is never issued again.

The +44 dialling code and the British phone number format

A British phone number carries the country code +44. Mobile lines sit in the 07 range and run to eleven digits written locally — 07XXX XXXXXX. Written internationally the leading zero is dropped, so the same line reads +44 7XXX XXXXXX, ten digits after the country code.

That dropped zero causes more failed sign-ups than anything else. If the form has a separate country selector set to the United Kingdom, type the number starting at the 7. If you are typing the whole thing yourself, +44 goes first and the zero disappears. Entering +44 07XXX adds a digit that does not exist and the message goes nowhere.

Unlike North American numbers, a UK number tells you what it is: the 07 range is mobile, 01 and 02 are landlines, and 03, 08 and 09 are non-geographic. A verification code can only be delivered to a mobile range, which is why every line in this inventory starts with 7 after the country code.

Which services a UK virtual number works for

Most global platforms fall into the easy group: they take a +44 line without comment because they never inspect the country at all. For those, the reason to choose the United Kingdom is availability and price rather than the country code itself.

A second group genuinely wants a British line — services that only operate in the UK, regional betas, and delivery or retail apps that check the country before they let you register. This page is aimed at both groups, because the answer is the same line either way.

The third group is the limit to know about: platforms that identify pooled number ranges and refuse them. That check exists across this market and no provider bypasses it. The financial consequence on our side is fixed — no code, no charge.

Why HMRC, the NHS and UK banks need a line of your own

The mechanism is different from the one people assume. Nothing about a British SIM has to be registered to you by law, so the block is not a registration check. It is simpler: these services send the code to a number already held on your record. HMRC Government Gateway texts the number you set up when you enrolled; a bank texts the number on the account.

A fresh single-use line cannot receive that message, because the institution was never told about it — and changing the number on file is itself a process that needs identity verification. On top of that, many banks run a lookup that identifies the line type and decline anything that is not an ordinary mobile subscription. Use your own line for anything that holds money or official records, and keep virtual numbers for sign-ups.

Why the pool changes during the day

The table on this page is read from live inventory on every page load rather than typed by hand. Lines are taken and returned constantly and the underlying carrier cost shifts through the day, so stock and price are both a snapshot of that moment.

Carrier cost is the only thing setting the figure: a cheap country is one where carrying a short message is cheap, and an expensive one is the reverse. That is why a price can differ from your last visit without anything changing on your account. The current figures across every country sit on the price list.

Single-use number or a rental?

A single-use number is reserved for one code window and then goes back to the pool. That covers a registration, a one-off check, or a second account you have no intention of re-verifying. It does not cover anything that will ask for the same number again — a password reset next month, a login from a new device, a courier ringing you back.

If you intend to keep the account, do the swap immediately: open it with a single-use line, then move the account onto a number of your own, an email address or an authenticator app before you close the session. A rental only earns its cost when you truly need to hold one number for a long stretch. The differences are laid out on our virtual number page.

Common error messages

  • "Enter a valid UK mobile number" — usually the leading zero. After +44 the number begins at 7.
  • "This number is already in use" — the line has been registered on that platform before. Cancel and take another; the amount returns to your balance.
  • "We could not send a code to that number" — the platform has identified the range and refused it. A second British line seldom changes the answer; another country sometimes does.
  • No code appears in the panel — check the service you selected when ordering. Choose the wrong one and the message is routed to a different queue, so your number stays silent even though the platform did send something.

United Kingdom or Germany?

These are the two European countries people compare most, and the answer depends on one question: does the sign-up form care where the number is from? If it does not, the United Kingdom is usually the cheaper of the two and holds more stock, so there is little reason to look further.

If the service is German-facing — a local retailer, a regional campaign, a German-language platform — then a +49 German line is the one that clears the form, and the price difference is simply the cost of being accepted. If the country code is irrelevant and you only want the lowest figure on the list, Indonesia normally sits below both.

Legal and safe use

A UK virtual number is for registering without handing over your personal line, opening a second account where the platform allows it, or finishing a verification that will not be repeated. Opening accounts in someone else name, fraud and spam are against our terms of use and grounds for closing your account.

Messages sent to the number are visible only in your own session. When the transaction ends the line returns to the pool and past messages cannot be retrieved — not by whoever takes the number next, and not by you.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

UK lines are plentiful in supply, which keeps the unit cost down. The same reason makes the United Kingdom our widest country by platform coverage.

Drop the leading zero. A mobile written locally as 07XXX XXXXXX becomes +44 7XXX XXXXXX. Keeping the zero after +44 adds a digit that does not exist and no message is delivered.

WhatsApp is where our users spend UK lines most. Enter the number and read the incoming code in your panel. How long the account lasts depends on WhatsApp's own policy.

No. HMRC Government Gateway and UK banks require the line to match a subscription registered in your name; a single-use number does not clear that check.

A standard order covers one code. Some services offer a repeat-code option; when it is available it appears in your panel.

The table on this page shows the cheapest platforms. The full list and live stock are visible in the panel; creating an account is free and you can browse before adding any balance.

Yes. If the window expires with no code the order closes and the amount is credited immediately; your next attempt is issued a different line.
