How to get a Germany virtual number
-
Choose the platform
Pick the service you need from the Germany list below and see its price.
-
Take a Germany number
The number is assigned to you alone and is never reused for the same service.
-
Read the code
The incoming verification code appears in your panel. If no code arrives, the charge returns to your balance automatically.
When is a German number useful?
Services launched in Germany, German-language content platforms and region-locked campaigns may require a line starting with +49 at registration. In our own usage data German lines go mostly to WhatsApp, followed by Facebook and Discord.
This page is the right address if you live in Germany or are trying to register with a German service. Banking, the Finanzamt and official institutions, however, will not work with a single-use line — those systems require the number to match a registered subscription.
What to expect on price
On German lines, email and messaging services sit on the cheap side; mail.com, Discord and ProtonMail are among the lowest rungs. Prices climb towards corporate and finance apps, because those lines cost more to supply.
On average Germany stays above the United Kingdom and Indonesia. If the service you are verifying does not check the country code, looking there will save you money.
How the number works
The number is assigned to you alone and is never issued twice for the same service. The incoming verification code appears in your panel; no forwarding or app install is required. If no code arrives, the charge returns to your balance automatically when the window expires.
The +49 dialling code and the German phone number format
A German phone number carries the country code +49. Mobile lines live in the 015, 016 and 017 ranges — 0151, 0160, 0176 and their neighbours — and are written locally with that leading zero: 0176 XXXXXXX. Internationally the zero is dropped, so the same line reads +49 176 XXXXXXX.
German mobile numbers are not all the same length. Depending on the range the subscriber part runs to seven or eight digits, which is why a form that hard-codes a fixed length sometimes rejects a perfectly valid line. Copy the number exactly as the panel shows it rather than padding or trimming it.
Unlike a North American number, a German one announces what it is. The 015 to 017 blocks are mobile; 030, 089, 040 and the rest are geographic landlines; 0800 is freephone and 0900 is premium rate. Only a mobile range can take a verification message, which is why every line here begins with 1 after the country code.
Which services a Germany virtual number works for
The straightforward group is the global one: messengers, social platforms, mail providers and marketplaces that never inspect the country code. They accept a +49 line, but they accept any other line too, so choosing Germany there is a preference rather than a requirement.
The group that makes this page worth having is the German-facing one — local retailers, regional campaigns, German-language services and apps that are only distributed in the country. Those check the prefix before they let you continue, and only a +49 line gets through.
Then there is the limit that applies everywhere: platforms that identify pooled number ranges and refuse them. No provider in this market bypasses that, and nobody can tell you in advance which platform runs the check. The part we can state exactly is financial — a number that receives no code is refunded.
Why German banks and the Finanzamt need a registered line
Two separate mechanisms combine here, and neither is something a different country or a second attempt can solve. The first is the account record: a smsTAN or a login code goes to the number your bank already holds for you, and putting a new number on that record is itself an identity procedure carried out at the bank, not on a sign-up form.
The second is regulatory. European rules on strong customer authentication require a bank to tie the second factor to the customer rather than to whichever handset is nearby, so a line with no subscriber behind it cannot serve as that factor by design. Tax and administrative services work on the same principle, matching you through your tax number and registered address rather than through a phone. Keep your own line for anything in that category and use a virtual number for registrations.
Why the pool changes during the day
The table on this page is read from live inventory on every page load instead of being typed out once. Lines are taken and returned all day, so a platform showing no German stock at this moment may well have some later; checking again generally beats retrying the same order repeatedly.
Price follows carrier cost and nothing else. A cheap country is one where carrying a short message is cheap, and that underlying cost moves during the day — which is why a figure can differ from the one you saw last week although nothing changed on your account. Current numbers for every country are on the price list.
Single-use number or a rental?
A single-use number is held for one code window and then goes back to the pool. It fits a registration, a one-off verification, or a second account you will not need to confirm again. It does not fit anything that returns for the same number later — a password reset, a sign-in from an unfamiliar device, a parcel service calling you back.
If the account is one you mean to keep, make the swap in the same session: open it with a single-use line, then move the account onto a number of your own, an email address or an authenticator app. A rental only justifies its cost when you genuinely must hold one number over a long stretch. What each option covers is explained on our virtual number page.
Common error messages
- "Ungültige Rufnummer" or "Invalid phone number" — usually the leading zero. After +49 the number starts at the 1.
- "Diese Nummer wird bereits verwendet" — the line has been registered on that platform before. Cancel and take another; the amount returns to your balance.
- "Code konnte nicht gesendet werden" — the platform has identified the range and declined it. A second German line rarely changes the outcome; another country sometimes does.
- Nothing appears in the panel — check that the service you picked when ordering is the platform you are actually registering with. With the wrong one selected the message is routed to a different queue and your number stays quiet.
Germany or the United Kingdom?
This is the comparison people make most often, and one question settles it: does the form care where the number comes from? If the country selector is open and lists everything, then a +44 British line normally costs less and is more reliably in stock, and there is no advantage to paying for Germany.
If the service is German-facing, the country code is the whole point and the difference in price is simply what being accepted costs. And if no country code matters at all, Indonesia usually sits below both. Working down that order — is Germany required, then is the UK enough, then what is cheapest — avoids paying for a prefix nobody asked for.
Legal and safe use
A German virtual number is for registering without handing over your personal line, opening a second account where the platform allows it, or finishing a verification that will not be repeated. Opening accounts in someone else name, fraud and spam are against our terms of use and grounds for closing your account.
Messages sent to the number are visible only in your own session. When the transaction ends the line returns to the pool and past messages cannot be retrieved — not by whoever takes the number next, and not by you.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
WhatsApp is where most of our German lines are used. Enter the number and read the incoming code in your panel. How long the account lasts depends on WhatsApp's own policy.
Drop the leading zero. A mobile written locally as 0176 XXXXXXX becomes +49 176 XXXXXXX. German mobile ranges vary in length, so copy the number exactly as the panel shows it.
No. German banks and the tax office tie TAN/SMS verification to a subscription that matches your Meldebescheinigung. A single-use line cannot produce that match.
It depends on the platform. The table above is read from live inventory and lists the cheapest platforms first.
No. It is a single-use line on operator infrastructure, provisioned for incoming SMS only. You cannot make or receive calls.
Yes. Germany averages above the UK and Indonesia. If the sign-up screen leaves the country code open, either of those finishes the same verification for less.
When the code window closes the order drops by itself and the amount is credited back. It shows as "refunded" in your panel.
