Shopee OTP Not Received? 8 Fixes (2026)

Published: 5 min read Written by:  Published by: SMSVAR

When a Shopee OTP is not received, Shopee's own help centre points to three usual causes: a network or carrier problem, a wrong phone number linked to your profile, and the maximum request limit for codes. Each has a simple fix. Below we go through them in order, explain what to do when the code still won't arrive, and cover the OTP scams that target Shopee buyers and sellers.

How Shopee uses OTPs

Shopee sends a one-time password (OTP) to the phone number on your account when you sign up, log in on a new device, change account details, or make sensitive changes such as updating payment or wallet settings. The code is short-lived and works only once. Because ShopeePay and your saved addresses sit behind the same login, the number on your account matters long after sign-up.

Shopee OTP not received: 8 fixes

  1. Check the number on your profile. Shopee sends the code to the number linked to your account. If that's an old number, the code is going there.
  2. Restart your phone and toggle airplane mode. Shopee's help centre lists this first; it re-registers the phone on the network.
  3. Check the default SIM on dual-SIM phones. Make sure the SIM with your Shopee number is active for SMS.
  4. Reseat the SIM card. Remove and reinsert it, then request a new code.
  5. Look in filtered messages. Check spam, unknown senders and your blocked list.
  6. Use only the latest code. Each request replaces the previous one.
  7. Stop if you've hit the limit. Too many requests trigger Shopee's maximum request limit; wait before trying again.
  8. Chat with Shopee. If it still fails, go to the Me tab and choose Chat with Shopee to reach a live agent.

Shopee's help article on missing OTPs lists the details support will ask for: your username, when it happened, your phone model and operating system, your mobile provider and the page where you requested the code.

New account, number won't receive the code?

If you're opening a new Shopee account and your own number can't receive the OTP, for example because you're abroad on a data-only eSIM, a one-time number can receive the sign-up code. On smsvar.com you choose Shopee and a country, see the price first on our prices page, and the code appears on your order screen; if nothing arrives in 20 minutes, the fee is refunded to your balance. If you're travelling, our guide on receiving codes abroad may solve it without another number.

For a buyer account you'll pay from, or a seller account that receives payouts, switch to your own number as soon as you can. A temporary phone number can later be assigned to someone else, and Shopee may ask for an OTP again when you change details. Calling-app numbers are a separate problem: many are VoIP numbers that OTP systems reject, as explained in non-VoIP vs VoIP numbers.

Use one account per person: creating extra accounts to claim new-user vouchers breaks Shopee's terms and gets accounts restricted.

Shopee OTP scams to watch for

  • "I sent the OTP to you by mistake." A stranger, or a hacked friend's account, asks you to forward a code. It's your login code, and sharing it hands over your account.
  • Fake customer service calls. Callers claiming to be from Shopee ask for the OTP to "fix an order" or "process a refund". Shopee staff don't need your OTP.
  • Fake delivery messages. Links in texts asking you to "confirm delivery" may lead to fake login pages. Open the Shopee app yourself instead.

If you've shared an OTP, change your password, check your linked devices and payment settings, and contact Shopee through Chat with Shopee straight away.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my Shopee OTP not sending?

Shopee lists network problems, a wrong number linked to your profile, and the maximum request limit as the main causes. Restart your phone, check your profile number, and wait if you've requested many codes. If it still fails, contact a live agent through Chat with Shopee.

How long should I wait after too many OTP requests?

Shopee doesn't publish an exact time. Stop requesting for a while, at least a few hours, and then try once. Each additional request during the limit can delay things further.

Can I receive the Shopee OTP on a different number?

The code always goes to the number linked to your account. To use a different number, update it in your profile while you can still log in, or contact Shopee support if you've lost access to the old number.

Is it safe to give my OTP to Shopee customer service?

No. An OTP is for you to type into the app yourself. Anyone asking you to read it out, even if they claim to be from Shopee, should be treated as a scammer.
