How VFS Global verification works
VFS Global is the intermediary that handles visa applications for a large number of countries. Phone verification is requested when you create an account on the application portal and, in some country implementations, again at the appointment stage. A code is sent to the number and the portal account is verified.
The portal behaves differently from country to country. Some implementations are satisfied with email verification, others make SMS mandatory; some ask for a one-time code on every sign-in, others only during the initial registration. That variation is the single thing that decides whether a VFS Global virtual number is enough for your case.
How to get a VFS Global virtual number
- Create your account and add credit.
- Pick VFS Global from the service list, then the country you want the number from.
- The number is reserved instantly. Enter it in the phone field on the application portal with the country code and no leading zero.
- Read the code from the panel and submit it on the portal.
The flow normally takes a minute or two. You do not have to wait if nothing arrives: cancel and try another country from the list. The fee for a cancelled number is returned to your balance.
Important warning about the application process
A visa application is an official process. VFS Global and the relevant consulate may send appointment changes, missing-document notices or cancellation messages to the number you gave on the application. A virtual number returns to the pool once the transaction ends, so to avoid missing those notices you must put your own reachable number on the application record.
Use the virtual number only for the SMS verification step of the portal registration — never as the contact number for the application itself. Passport collection and courier tracking notices go to the same number, so fill the contact field on the application form with your own line without exception.
What to watch at the appointment verification step
Appointment screens in most countries open for short windows during busy periods, and the session times out quickly. To keep the session alive while you wait for a code, have the number ready first: take the number in the panel, then start the verification step on the portal — not the other way round.
If the code does not arrive, do not close the appointment screen. Taking a new number and repeating the same step is usually possible without losing the session, and that is far better than starting the booking again.
Which applications run through VFS?
VFS Global handles application intake and appointment scheduling for many countries. Whether a particular country runs its applications through VFS depends on the contract that country representation has in place, and it can change over time.
Some countries take applications directly through a consulate portal instead, and in those cases no VFS account is needed at all. Confirm the current method for the country you are applying to on the official page of its representation before you buy a number.
Portal sessions and timeouts
Application portals run short sessions for security reasons. If you leave a form idle while filling it in, the session drops and the information you entered can be lost.
Having the number ready before you reach the verification step reduces that risk directly: reserve the number in the panel first, then ask the portal for the code. The wait for the code then happens inside a fresh part of the session rather than at the end of a long one.
Document upload and appointment changes
Once the portal account is open, document upload, appointment rescheduling and payment all run through the account itself. None of these steps requires a new SMS verification — after the account has been verified once, you normally do not need the number again.
The one exception is a portal that asks for a one-time code on every sign-in. If you are working with an implementation like that, update the contact number on the account with your own line immediately after verification, because the virtual number will not be there for the second sign-in.
Why is the country list shorter here?
VFS verification does not accept every country number, and the service is unavailable in some regions. The country list on this page is read from live inventory and is shorter than on our general platform pages for that reason.
Every country you can see on the list is a country that can genuinely supply a number at that moment. When one runs out of stock, moving down the list and trying the next one is the fastest route.
If the verification code never arrives
When no code arrives the transaction counts as incomplete and the amount you paid returns to your balance. Nothing is charged for an unused number and you do not have to claim the refund afterwards; it settles on its own when the window closes.
Waiting for a second send of the same code rarely helps, because portals do not resend to the same number at short intervals. Taking a new number is almost always quicker.
Common error messages
- "This number is not accepted" — the portal does not accept numbers from some countries. Try a different country on the list.
- "Too many attempts" — this appears when codes are requested repeatedly for the same number in a short window. Continue with a different number.
- No code on screen — check that you entered the number with the country code and without a leading zero.
A practical order for picking a number
The table on this page starts at the lowest price, but the cheapest country is not always the quickest. Try a country from the upper part of the list, and if no code arrives within about two minutes, cancel and move to the next one. The fee for a cancelled number returns to your balance.
Stock changes during the day, so the table is read again on every page load rather than typed by hand. Country-by-country prices are on the price list.
Single-use number or a rental?
If the portal account is verified once, a single-use number is enough. If you are working with a portal that asks for a one-time code on every sign-in, you would need access to the same number throughout the application process.
Even then the right answer is not a rental. It is to update the contact number on the account with your own line immediately after verification. Being reachable matters more than anything else in a visa process, and no temporary number can offer that.
Does verification affect the application itself?
No. SMS verification only opens your portal account. Whether an application is accepted depends on your documents and the decision of the consulate, and the number used at the registration step plays no part in that assessment.
What the number can affect is whether you hear about a problem in time. A missing-document notice you never receive is the practical risk, which is why the contact field on the application must carry your own line.
Legal and safe use
A virtual number here is for passing the verification step of a portal registration without sharing your personal line. Applying in someone else name or submitting false documents or information is against our terms of use and grounds for closing your account.
Messages sent to the number are visible only in your own session; once the transaction ends the number returns to the pool and past messages cannot be retrieved. You can compare the current figures for other platforms on our virtual number page.
