Why does Tinder insist on a phone number?

Tinder ties registration directly to a phone number. Even if you sign in with Facebook or Google, the app asks for a number at some point. The purpose is to limit one person from opening many accounts.

A six-digit code is sent to the number and the account is paired with it.

How to get a number

  1. Add credit and open the panel.
  2. Pick the Tinder service, then the country.
  3. Enter the number in the app phone field, including the country code.
  4. Read the code from the panel and type it into the app.

Country choice and location

Tinder does not restrict the country of the number, but the app shows matches by location, not by number. Taking a foreign number does not change the region you are shown in; location comes from your device location settings.

If you plan to keep the account

The number is single-use. If Tinder asks you to verify again later you will not have access to it and will not be able to sign in. Bear that in mind if you intend to use the account long term.

Platform rules

Tinder community guidelines are explicit about fake profiles and misleading use. A virtual number resolves the registration step; it does not change the platform own rules.

If the code never arrives

If the window closes without a code, the transaction is cancelled and the fee is credited back to your balance.
