Why does Discord ask for a phone number?

Discord does not require a phone at sign-up; accounts are opened with an email address. Phone verification comes into play in two situations:

  • the server you want to join has enabled the phone verification security level, or
  • your account has been locked because of suspicious activity.

In both cases a six-digit code is sent to the number.

How to get a number

  1. Add credit and open the panel.
  2. Pick the Discord service, then the country.
  3. Enter the number in the phone field in Discord settings.
  4. Read the code from the panel and submit it.

One number, one account

Discord does not allow the same phone number to be registered on more than one account, so each account needs its own number. Ours are single-use in any case.

Leaving the number on the account

Once verification is done you can remove the number in settings. If you leave it and Discord later sends a code to that same number, you will not have access to it. Adding an authenticator app is a sturdier way to protect the account.

Country choice

Discord does not restrict the country of the number. The choice affects price and availability.

If the code never arrives

If the window closes without a code, the transaction is cancelled and the fee is credited back to your balance.
