What is Telegram SMS verification?

Telegram does not accept email registration; an account is tied directly to a phone number. If you would rather not use your own line, or you are opening a second account, you need a temporary number to receive the confirmation code. A virtual number solves that step: you enter the number in Telegram and the code shows up in our panel.

Telegram has one behaviour worth knowing about: if the number already has an active session, the code is delivered through the Telegram app rather than by SMS. A fresh number has no session, so the code arrives as an SMS and registration proceeds without trouble.

How to get a Telegram number

  1. Sign in to your account and add credit.
  2. Pick Telegram from the service list, then the country.
  3. Enter the reserved number in the phone field in the Telegram app.
  4. Read the five-digit code from the panel and type it into the app.

Which country should you pick?

Telegram does not restrict the country of the number. The choice affects price and current availability. If one country is out of stock, working down the list is the quickest route; the list starts at the lowest price.

Telegram may apply extra checks more often to certain country prefixes where registration volume is high. If you hit a problem, trying a different country is usually enough.

Two-step verification and the cloud password

If an account has a cloud password (two-step verification) set, that password is requested after the SMS code. We do not hold it and it cannot be obtained with a virtual number; only the account holder knows it. This is not an obstacle when you are opening a new account.

If the code never arrives

When the window closes without a code, the transaction is cancelled and the amount is credited back to your balance. You are not charged for an unused number.
