Why does AOL ask for phone verification?

AOL Mail asks for a phone number on the registration form and sends a verification code to it. The purpose is to limit automated account creation. If you would rather not supply your personal number, or you are opening an AOL account only for a specific registration, a temporary number resolves that step.

AOL verification is among the faster ones across email providers; the code usually arrives shortly after you submit the number.

How to get an AOL verification number

  1. Add credit and open the panel.
  2. Pick AOL from the service list, then the country.
  3. Enter the number in the phone field on the AOL registration form.
  4. Read the code from the panel and type it into the form.

What does the country choice change?

AOL does not restrict the country of the number. The choice sets the price and current availability. The number of countries we can supply for AOL is read from live inventory on this page; every country listed is available right now.

Yahoo and AOL

AOL and Yahoo operate under the same roof and their verification systems are similar. In the panel, however, they are two separate services. If you are opening an AOL account, use the AOL option: pick the wrong service and the expected code will not reach your number.

If the code never arrives

If the window closes without a code, the transaction is cancelled and the amount is credited back to your balance. Unused numbers are not charged for.

If you plan to keep the account

The number is single-use and returns to the pool once the transaction ends. If you intend to use your AOL account long term, set a recovery email address as soon as it is open. That way a later phone verification request will not lock you out.
